Notes - Thomas was a Corporal in the 13 th Virginia Regiment during the Revolutionary War. Thomas Pursell was
a woolweaver, founded the town of Hillsboro Va., and established a blanket factory there.
Thomas' parents were baptised on the same date that Thomas was christened. "John and Hannah Pursel were both baptised at the Readington Reformed Church in Somerset County, New Jersey by the Rev. Theodorus J. Frelinghuysen on April 9, 1720. The witnesses were Jacob Sebring and Ceitjen Van Neste." (Somerset County Historical Quarterly Vol IV )
He died in Loudoun Co., in 1779; (J. Estelle Stewart King, Abstracts of Wills .... in Loudoun County, Virginia, 1757 - 1800, Beverly Hills 1941, pp 23 f.) Though all the sons were of age, none were named executor, perhaps because they were absent in the Army. Instead, Robert Jamison and James McIlhenny were appointed.
Witnesses: Josiah White, James McIlhenny and Richard Smith.
