He is the son of Dr. William Russell Van Hook and Matilda Weller of LaRue Co., Ky. Wm. Russell b. Sept. 29, 1837 grad. Louisville Medical College 1858, died 1898, six children. Another son of above Dr. Van Hook and a brother of La Rue is Dr. Weller Van Hook.

"Mortuary - VanHook - At the Baptist hospital in Chicago, Saturday, Sept. 3, 1898, Dr. W.R. VanHook, of El Paso, Ill.
Dr. VanHook was formerly a resident of Springfield, and practiced as a physician for twenty-five years. He practiced at Illiopolis and Buffalo and then came to Springfield. He left here two years ago and has since resided in El Paso. He is survived by his widow whose maiden name was Gertrude Pickrell of Lanesville, and has six children by a former wife: Dr. Weller VanHook a prominent physician of Chicago; Martha, Russell, Mary Lee, LaRue and Phoebe, all of whom reside at El Paso. Mrs. VanHook is a cousin of Mrs. George Pasfield, sr., of Springfield."
